I Tjwan Ing was born in Mojoagung, East Java, on 20 November 1941. At an early age of 5 he already showed his interest in Arts, and started to draw. He was greatly inspired by his mother, who was a good Batik Designer.

In 1958, he spent his time in Bali together with his elder brother for 3 months, who was also a painter, named I Fantze (in Memory). They spent all their time making paintings.

In 1963, I Tjwan Ing studied Interior Architecture in ITB, and graduated in 1970.

In 1983 he traveled around big cities in Europe for his study excursion in Architectural Field. During that time he also got the opportunity to visit distinguished museums in Amsterdam, London, Brussel, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome & Munchen.

Upon his return, he was quite occupied with his career in Architecture, so he just did his painting in his spare time or for commission only. However, in 1990, he decided to fully concentrate his career as a painter. From that time on, he regularly exhibited his paintings from time to time.
